Akmenukas

Once upon a time, there lived a small gray pebble on the Latvian coast. It was simple, with smooth, round sides and a small protruding belly like a little man.

- I am nothing special... - the pebble said to itself sadly, - no marks, no edges, how will anyone want to take me in their arms?

So the pebble dreamed every day that someone would take it in their arms. Nothing was more important to him than for someone to recognize it and distinguish it from other stones and take it home.

- But wouldn't you be sad if someone took you from your brothers and sisters, other pebbles? - asked an even smaller pebble lying nearby.

However, without even thinking, the pebble immediately answered:

- What are you, of course not! The grass is greener elsewhere...
- The grass is greener... - repeated the little pebble..., - And what does that mean?
- Hm, - the pebble thought, - I once knew, but I've been lying here for a thousand years, I'm starting to forget... Ah, yes, the grass is greener, it means that living elsewhere is better, or at least that's what we imagine.
- You see, I thought it was connected with the greenness of the grass... - said the tiny pebble.
- No, little one, it means that living elsewhere is supposedly better.

And so for a thousand more days and years the pebbles talked and dreamed of a better life. And you - do you live for today or for the future?

The End
